Whole Labels, Longer Sessions

Alpha · Alpha 9.0.7 · 14.09.26

A session no longer grows until it dies. The crash that took a Mac player down after fifty-one minutes came from memory the drawing engine never gave back — the third time this one has come back after being closed. This time the fix comes from the makers of the drawing engine itself, not another patch of ours.

Button labels are measured against their own words. Every label in the game is held to one width, taken from a single English sentence, so that no language overflows the button it sits in. A label assembled while you play was never in that measurement — "Do the reading with Nell" and its six neighbours were being trimmed in English to fit a sentence they had nothing to do with. A label's own text is now measured too, and the wider of the two wins.

Behind the scenes, crash and error reports carry more detail. Every event names the platform it came from, so a Steam player is no longer indistinguishable from a browser one, and every fight says which mode it belongs to. An error names the player it hit and where it happened instead of reporting nobody at all, and the last two places where an error could vanish unreported are closed.
